Operations Manager

People in focus
I am responsible for operations in Nomeco’s subsidiary in Odense, and it’s my job to ensure that people and systems work well together on a day to day basis so that we reach our targets. I have 75 staff two of whom are Team Leaders and my working day takes in a number of managerial tasks. Before joining Nomeco in 2007 I worked in a number of different sectors. I spent 14 years in the foodstuffs industry – 12 of these as a manager. After that I worked as a Departmental Manager for Montana Møbler. I actually don’t have a formal education. My training has been in practical management with a focus on teambuilding, coaching and motivation. I have always been a people person.

Successful management is flexible management
As an Operational Manager my job is many faceted. There are lots of decisions to be made and a departmental Operational Manager needs a large skill set. I am part of the process when we hire people, and when we’re planning budgets, making building and materials decisions and in all general planning. As an Operational Manager I need to have the skills to tackle all these tasks.

Employees should be able to influence their work patterns
It’s important for me to organise the workplace in such a way that people can use their abilities to the full. It’s about being flexible and about moving people to new tasks if it makes better sense for them and for us. If I can help give my staff a varied working day where they can influence their own work then I’m happy.

Send positive signals
I’m a positive person who looks at the challenges I meet in the course of my working day in a positive light. I hope that my positive attitude rubs off on my staff and that they go home happy and come to work looking forward to the new day. I try to help my staff to enjoy their work by ensuring that there are a number of social activities available to them including the DHL-stafet, our summer party and office Christmas party. It means that our employees look out for each other and that’s important every day.

You have to want your job
When I’m not at work I spend my time with my family. I also go for a run every once in a while and I enjoy fishing. Formula 1 is also an important tradition for me. When your job is important to you it often happens that your working life and your free time end up mingling. I often get new ideas when I’m doing something completely different and actually have the time to reflect on what I do. As far as I’m concerned management is a lifestyle where helping to facilitate change and development is natural every day. That’s why Nomeco’s and my own values help to create the Allan that my employees and colleagues see every day.
