Even though I finished my education not long ago, I have been working at Nomeco several years. I started as an intern when I studied engineering. Nomeco was an easy choice because I wanted to work in a logistics company. I think that the mixture of IT and logistics is extremely interesting.
Then I worked as a student employee for a year and after that I got a trainee position in the part of Nomeco dealing with VMI. It is a system where Nomeco roughly speaking is managing the pharmacies’ inventories. I continued working with VMI when I moved to Supply Chain Development.
Development tasks for the pharmacies
It is my job to coordinate and develop new solutions for VMI. E.g. solutions which the pharmacies have requested themselves and which make their work easier due to a better workflow. Or it may be solutions to reduce costs internally. All development takes place in close cooperation with those of my colleagues who are familiar with the solutions and the customers.
Many simultaneous tasks as project management
I am often the underlying link and thus do not have a lot of contact with the customers. However, my job is very outgoing and I like dealing with many different people every day. Otherwise, being a developer may get too lonely.
I am working on many tasks at the same time. I am the one coordinating them and often I work as a project manager. The tasks may be everything from minor system changes to facilitating manual routines. I spend the major part of my time at work developing and have few operational tasks.
A workplace focussing on development
Nomeco is a dynamic workplace with a great willingness to change. Many ships are launched and a lot of development is going on. That is very positive because my job requires someone to have new ideas which I can develop. I have good opportunities for professional development.
My tasks have become larger and more complex. VMI is generally quite complex, which is very challenging. In a busy environment, it is important to give professional inputs to your colleagues and not just be along for the ride.
A good atmosphere
It is important to do other things with your colleagues than the everyday work. I participate in the intranet editing group and in the art club, which organizes art exhibitions and a number of cultural events. The art club for instance organizes a painting evening where you meet people from other departments. Whenever a ”Friday bar” is organized, I am pleased to attend, so all in all I see my colleagues socially a couple of times a month.
My limit between work and leisure time is quite fuzzy and that suits me fine. I think that my job is very interesting which is why it takes up such a large part of my life.
