I am managing one of our three teams with 16 consultants in all. In our team we are six people servicing pharma industry suppliers with logistics tasks. The suppliers have outsourced their storage and handling of goods to us and it is our job to manage their flow of goods. We must see to it that the goods are stored quickly and correctly at the warehouse so that they are ready for sale. Our key terms are logistics and quality.
Being in good spirits
It is my job to motivate the team and to be in good spirits when necessary. I am in charge of day-to-day management and prioritization of the tasks and I must coordinate across the team. We also coordinate across all teams to ensure a certain uniformity. Besides, I help recruit new employees and I will probably soon get a certain responsibility for budgets.
Many contacts
I have a very large number of contacts in my job. We are in contact with the customers who belong to my team and we are also in contact with the customers' customers who are buying the goods we distribute. The contact mainly takes place by phone and e-mail but we often visit our customers because we must have a thorough knowledge of their business and products. We work as their representatives in our organization – and vice versa. Internally at Nomeco, I have many contacts as well, from our operations department to HR.
Committee for job satisfaction handles social activities
At Nomeco HealthCare Logistics we have a committee for job satisfaction which arranges social activities several times a year. For instance we went on a summer trip to Flakfortet and we have seen stand-up comedy in town. Besides, we try to arrange informal meetings after work because it is much more fun going to work when you do other things together and get to know each other from another angle.
When we take on new employees, we are aware of the social aspect as well. We are in a quite confined space and we work closely together. That doesn't mean that we are all alike – on the contrary we are a motley crowd of different ages and background. It is one of our strengths that some have a pharmacy background while others have a Bachelor of Commerce degree or are qualified shipping agents.
A challenging job
I am constantly challenged in my job at Nomeco. I never know exactly what the day will be like when I arrive in the morning. The pharma industry is still new to me and I am on a learning curve. Working with our competency development is also becoming more systematic. We have a so-called HCL Academy where we meet approx. once a month for a course. Besides, many receive lessons in English which is our business language. As for myself, I will soon attend a coaching course. Thus, we have a very high degree of personal and professional development.
There is also a possibility of moving on within my own organization. I have no plans of that kind at the moment but it is good to know that it is an option.
Flexibility goes both ways
We aim at having a working day of 7.5 hours but of course there are times when we need to work more. On the other hand it is possible to leave early or have a day off if the need arises. The flexibility goes both ways.
